Where am I, and what is here
Three commands answer almost every 'where am I' question: pwd prints the directory you are in, ls lists what is in it, cd moves you somewhere else.
ls -la is the one worth memorising: -l for the long form with permissions and sizes, -a to include hidden files, the ones starting with a dot.
